With one of the most anticipated new lines in goaltending in the recent years, Bauer has brought you one of the most engineered, designed, and technologically advanced line of gear. The 1S Skate is packed with new features which strive to change the face of goaltending.
At first view, these don’t look like traditional goalie skates and that is exactly what Bauer is going for! The 1S skate is designed to increase the attack angle of goalies moving while in the butterfly position as well as recoveries and movements around the crease. The outer cowling has been removed and a “traditional” looking player holder has been added to the boot. The protection that the old cowling used to offer is still added into the outside panels of the skate, as well as keeping the protection at the toe. By removing the toe cap, the goalie now has better contact with the front of their pad as well as removing drag on the ice. Again, the protection remains as the 1S skate features the same thickness at the toe that the older cowlings provided, just in a way to improve the performance of goalies.
Included in the New Vertexx Edge Holder is the 3mm LS3G steel specifically designed for the anatomical position the goalie will be in. This steel is removed via the Edge Trigger system found on the player skates and gives goalie the opportunity to change their steel on the fly.
With the asymmetrical design of the boot, the inside edge sits taller on the ankle to provide more stiffness and protection when in specific movements. The outside edge of the boot is lower to provide relief on the ankle for less fatigue and a deeper stance. Also, the comfort edge padding adds to the softness the skate provides. The tongue of the skate reflects the same changes and is proportional to the foot. Coupled with the 37.5 Technology liner, the body temperature is regulated for optimal performance and keeps the foot locked in place.
If you are a goalie who is looking for the most innovations within the technology of goaltending and wants a professional level gear, the Bauer 1S Sr. Goal Skate will not disappoint you!
have used mine 6 times & just make sure i dont over tighten laces ... these are stiff boots, you want them snug, not strangling your foot. insane attack angle. socks are almost dry after playing due to moisture wicking & vent holes under your foot. keep toe tie with abot 3 inches of play for better push offs without pads touching the ice.Review by Dean42MVG (Posted on 2/5/2017)
I came from using a pair of old one.9s to these skates and there is no comparison. The weight of these skates feels almost non-existent; it really does make a difference in my agility. The toecap is sturdy (I've taken multiple shots off the toe and cannot feel them) and because of the cowlingless design, I've noticed a huge increase in my attack angle. Performance-wise, I don't ever want anything less. They are also really comfy, even without break in. I expected a lot of pain because of a bruise on my ankle, but the skates felt like pillows with a stiff outer shell. I did have a lot of pressure on the balls of my feet but I think it is due to me getting the wrong width. Now that they're broken in, absolutely no qualms. The quality is also very good. The runners attach to the boot flush along the whole runner and the design is to my liking, especially the small detail of the boot's carbon fiber having a very slight purple tint. 14/10 will never settle for anything less, even at the price.Review by jonb88 (Posted on 12/26/2016)
I waited two months before I posted this review, I skate two times a week and sometimes for multiple hours. I came from Graf skates that I had for over 8 years. First off I went to the store in SoCal to pick these up. I was fitted and decided on the EE wide boot, we then baked and molded to my feet. I waited two days before hitting the ice. As I expected my feet hurt after 20 mins of open skate. I skated for another 20 before taking a break. After 45 min off the ice suited up and played net for 1 hr. My feet felt as I would expect from a new pair. So I continued to skate after skate, after skate. They still kill my feet and give me blisters. It seams to me the boot itself it stop stiff without a cowling. The boot bites the inside balls of my feet to the point of bruises. I took three weeks off to heel my feet and the inside balls of my ankles are still sore. The angle of attack is great without a doubt, the blades are so easy to change I bought a second set so I never have to worry about dull edges. I am hopeful that it's just a rough break in. For the money they should work out to be the best skate I have ever owned.Review by NetMinder (Posted on 8/14/2016)
great new concept. really liked these skates. lightweight, comfy, and the attack angle is ridiculous. I would recommend buying these skatesReview by dario (Posted on 8/6/2016)
I would have to agree these skates are amazing. I came from Graf G50 skates which I thought were good except for the rusting skate blades. You can get some crazy angles with these Bauer's. These skates give me more confidence knowing that the blades will bite at crazy angles.Review by cmb (Posted on 7/13/2016)
These skates are incredible. The attack angle is ridiculous, even compared to my old Reactor 6000's with Extreme Step Steel in them. Also wonderfully comfortable and light. My feet didn't hurt at all in my first skate. Can't wait to get on the ice with these again.Review by firstname.lastname@example.org (Posted on 6/3/2016)
