The Shape of our Mask

Starting with the shell construction, select material is chosen, layed up on the mould and bonded by high tensile resins. The composite layers are then strategically placed and moulded in a multi-component mould system, this moulding process eliminates any voids in the material and produces a stronger shell while reducing overall weight. The result is a perfect material to resin ratio.

The backplate assembly is a unique four point harness system that locks your head firmly in the mask. Each point is fastened to the backplate independently which centres the backplate on your head, unlike a standard or "floating backplate" there is no shifting with this system. So the backplate will always sit centered on your head at all times. The straps are fastened to the backplate using special fasteners, opposed to sewing, this system allows you to change the straps at your convenience quickly and easily.

All cages are constructed using high tensile stainless steel. Each cage is positioned and checked for perfect symmetry before the final welding is done. Custom cages can be made to customers specifications.

The strap slots are cut smaller than the plastic buckles, this prevents the strap from sliding off should it come undone from the impact of a puck or a slashing stick. This is one of the added safety features.

The interior of the mask is lined with Sportmask's own XLP padding which is specifically designed for compression deflection and thermal conductivity. This foam is specially developed for retaining it's impact absorbing properties for more than 2 years, in other words this foam does not break down and become hard as found in other interior padding setups. Specially engineered adhesive bonds the padding securely to the interior, this adhesive is designed to resist moisture which means the padding will not separate from the mask after a short period of time, even under heavy use.

Properties such as energy deflection, mask balance, interior comfort, durability and esthetics are carefully designed and carried out with each and every SPORTMASK. The final result is a perfectly engineered piece of head equipment which will leave you with a sense of money well spent!

Ricochet VE

This model is made using Sportmask's trademark ProGlass™. ProGlass™ is a high tensile fiberglass material made to withstand higher impacts, 40 percent stronger than standard less expensive fiberglass. The interior is finished smooth and the entire mask is bonded by high tensile resins. The result is an ultra light shell with a little more flexibility than the Carbon series. This mask comes with standard chin and shell depth.
