Details

Brand new for 2018, CCM has overhauled their flagship Premier line and brought out the CCM Premier II Pro Senior Goalie Glove. Building off of the already successful Premier line, the Premier II has new specs and pieces of technology sure to turn heads.

The Premier II glove has continued the perfect lineage along the CCM Premier yet has the new key features to give goalies extra protection and visibility into the pocket. The D3O Material is visibly seen on the outside of the palm protection and acts much like an extra pro palm, which helps reduce the likelihood of stingers if a puck is not caught clean in the pocket.

Starting with the closure of the glove, CCM has kept the same break angle from the old Koho 590, the 60 degree break. This break allows for a natural hand closure while giving the goalie a good catching glove and a good blocking the glove. The One-Piece cuff will give the goalie a larger blocking surface for when they engage in a blocking butterfly, yet the palm will show a large physical shape to the shooter and allow for a natural catch.

In the pocket of the glove, CCM has taken the massive success from the EF3 glove and added the Double Straight T as a stock option on the Premier II. This pocket allows the goalie to completely see into the pocket and still yield for a soft catch. At the base of the spine of the T, there is a U shaped design which keeps for a clean attachment point and also promotes an easy break in and game ready feel right out of the box. On the Spines of the glove, they are also stiffened up a bit to help give a better shape and depth to the pocket which will give the goalie the maximum depth allowed to help cradle pucks.

Internally, there is a new Velcro setup across the fingers to give a better fit on the inside of the glove. While the rest of the strapping setup will look familiar, this new strap across the back of the hand will create a better overall fit to keep the hand in the glove and give the best closure.

Finishing off back of the glove, there is a large padded finger rail which runs along the fingertips which gives extra protection for not only covering pucks, but in the RVH blocking selection as well. This extra rail is a large piece of HD foam which gives that goalie the extra protection they need.

If you are an elite-level butterfly goaltender who is looking for the a natural glove closure, with the opportunity to show a large visual presence to the shooter, look no further than the CCM Premier II Pro Senior Goalie Glove.

edge of pocket misshapen

The pros: This glove is a high performing glove and I have not gotten any stingers from the pro palm. For playing Bantam AAA and being on the ice 5 times a week this glove has definitely improved my game except for one huge thing.

The Con: In the front of the glove edge of the pocket is misshapen so whenever I go to cover the puck the puck easily slips out because the front is too high off the ice, thus resulting in more scoring changes which could easily determine if we win or loose. So for a $530 glove I would expect this to not happen. I have also contacted CCM about this issue and it has been a full 3 weeks and there is still no response which has led me to leave this review. So even after breaking it in there is still that issue which will make me not use the glove in a game until the issue is resolved. I switched from Bauer to CCM and this issue might make me not want to buy CCM ever again

Great glove dispite a few stingers...

I’ve been using the Premier 2 glove for a few months now and the glove is great.

The good:
There was very little break-in time required, it closed easily right out of the box. Additionally, it has been holding up really well with 3-4 uses (games) per week. I’ve seen no signs of any unusual wear or indications that it’s breaking down early. So far, the glove seems really well made. Every puck that comes near this glove gets sucked into the deep pocket like a blackhole! Seriously, I’ve had no pop-outs, or any issues with puck handling.

The bad:
The $530+shipping is obviously a bummer. It’s a pretty heavy price. I should also mention that even though I have the pro palm, I’ve had a few stingers. They’ve all come from the inside seam of the glove, right in the middle where it flexes to close. Perhaps they reduced padding in this area to accommodate the “game ready out-of-the-box” closure.

The few stingers aside, if you can afford the price tag (and prefer the 590 break), it’s a really great glove. You won’t be disappointed.
