Details

Brand new for 2018, CCM has overhauled their flagship Premier line and brought out the CCM Premier II Pro Senior Goalie Leg Pads. Building off of the already successful Premier line, the Premier II has new specs and pieces of technology sure to turn heads.

Starting with the internal core of the pad, the Premier II line has close to a 20% weight reduction across each pad that has a specifically balanced and reengineered core designed for the butterfly goalie. Also contributing to saving weight, there are specific reductions in the actual strapping and leg channel shapes.

Continuing on the weight reduction to the core of the pad, there is new Max Rebound Technology lining the entire face of the pad which is a specific foam layout dedicating to kicking rebounds out hard and fast. This harder rebound pattern gives goaltenders more time to recover and will help reduce and second shot opportunities.

Moving onto the backside of the pad, you will notice the lack of leather straps. This is due to CCM utilizing a fully elastic and nylon style setup to keep the pad connected on the leg while reducing weight. Keeping similar designs from previous generations, there is a 2” wide elastic strap which comes out of the knee block and can attach directly across the knee or angled down to the calf. The attachment on the outside of the knee is still removable, which is perfect for those who wish to experiment with strapping options or different knee pad sizes.

Building off of the same technology put into the Premier 1, the top calf strap is still noted as the most important and integral to a pads successful rotation. You will now find this technology named the Quick Motion Strap System. This is a large “Y” style setup inside the pads sliding edge and the goalies calf, which goes into a 2” elastic strap which attaches via a Velcro on the outside of the goalies calf. This strap will help anchor the pad and keep the goaltenders leg firmly planted in the pad. There is some give in the elastic strap which will allow for a faster drop velocity and recovery in and out of butterfly movements.

Following the same build pattern as the Quick Motion top calf strap, there is a larger nylon strap which closes off the entire leg channel. This strap begins on the inside of the calf and double through a loop on the outside of the leg channel and Velcro’s back onto itself. This strap can be adjusted as tight or as loose as desired, but it is recommended to keep it tighter as it will help pull the calf of the pad tight to the inside of the leg.

A large difference between the CCM Premier and Premier II is within the boot angle. On the CCM Premier, the boot angle was at such a stiff and straight angle which caused goalies to have to drop down in the knee sizing to achieve the proper fit, but that is changed on the Premier II. Now, there is 100% the same sizing between the ExtremeFlex3 and Premier II. This is due to a more traditional boot angle with a break that is not soft or stiff, but it has a spring to it which allows for deep pushes but will not break down and settle.

Finishing off the back of the pad, there is a brand new material used in the knee block which gives the goalie phenomenal grip when down in the butterfly. This new design is the 3D Grip with injection molded EPP Foams, which is a shiny silver material with a specific grip pattern which caters directly to goaltenders that go down in the butterfly but also gives perfect grip when leaning on the pad in the RVH position.

If you are an elite-level butterfly goaltender who is looking for the lightest CCM pad ever made, with harder rebound patterns, look no further than the CCM Premier II Pro Senior Goalie Leg Pads.

Great Pads

Premier II in Toronto colors, 33+1 length (I’m 5’9” (5’10” on a good day), and these pads over all are 2” shorter than my EFlex III’s. Also, they are the stiff butterfly pad. This is a huge departure for me in a pad. Before my EFlex III’s I had played in Vaughn Velocities for well over a decade so the concept of a soft hybrid pad that leaves rebounds right near me is what I’m familiar with. That may lead someone to ask why would I make this change? I’ve had several occasions lately where rebounds landed in entirely the wrong spot. Too far away for me to reach and right where someone from the other team can pounce on it and take a shot that I’m not in position for. Thus, I decided to try a stiffer pad with the idea of punching rebounds farther away. We will see how that goes. Like the glove these pads are pretty. I like the lines and the colors and graphically they are very appealing. Sure, it’s just a stock color combination but they look good. For a long time I’ve gone with solid white pads because I play for different teams and white pads are more likely to not clash with whatever color the team I’m playing for wears. But, I’ve gotten tired of that, so going with something more colorful. First game report. These pads work exactly as advertised. Light? These things are significantly lighter than my EFlex III’s. Fast? These things slide really well. I’ve read reviews that talked about speed skin not sliding well on some ice conditions. I have noticed in my III’s that if my balance is off on certain ice conditions they will stick, but that’s me doing something wrong not the pad. Rebounds fly off of these pads. I had more than one shot that was low, came off the pad and right to the boards or way out past where the other team was looking for rebounds. The one or two shots that did get to them were out at the point and gave me plenty of time to reposition before the shot.

Great pads

I was very impressed with these pads. They’re light weight and feel very comfortable. The sliding is decent. They don’t slide the best compared to other pads. The durability is fair as I’ve only had mine for almost 2 season and they’re ripped up a lot at the bottom. I like how they are a very soft pad. I would recommend these pads to anyone who prefers soft pads.

Great pads ! But ....

These pads are a great on performance, stiffness , sliding, rebounds and while in the RVH . I like the overall shape and how it sits on my legs . I also like how they kept it simple with the straps . However I bought these pads twice a few years apart and they always seem to rip in the same places . I experienced ripping in the leg Chanel bindings above where the straps sit and continually rub against. The Velcro anchor strap always seems to wear out on those to pads I had . But other than that it’s a great pad definitely worth the money.

Nice Pro level pad

I'm coming from a pair of Reebok Revok Pro pads, so these are definitely a nice upgrade. I got mine customized and the amount of options are almost overwhelming, but CCM has some good documentation available to do research. These are incredibly light compared to my old pads, and I even got them an inch longer.
The new strapping system is nice and so is the knee pad. I've had these for over a year and the only downside I see is some of the extra strap ties that I don't use have started to fray and come apart. Not a big deal since those were just extra ones I added as options to try out different ways of strapping.

You get what you pay for

Customizations make it fit like a glove. Only had them for a month and a half so not sure about durability. Weight is unbelievable. Rebound control is as advertised and sliding is sooo easy. Yeah they’re not cheap so if the durability holds out it’s worth it

Light and slide great

I bought these pads about 3 months ago and I am on ice 6-7 days a week sometimes twice a day. These pads are showing no wear on the incise and out still the stiff custom pad I got. I did however get the emboss material instead of the speed skin and it slides great even in the end of practice choppiness. Only cosmetic thing is the elastic straps have a slight stretch but that is common with elastic. I would definitely buy these pads again. Oh and one more thing is that I got my name with accents above some of the letters which is a nice custom spec.

Great pads!

Compare this to the heavy P1 pad it's night and day, the pad is light and much more comfortable to wear! The sizing is not exactly the same as to the P1 as they say, I had a 33 for the P1 and went with the 34 for my new P2s. Great product put out by CCM, comfort, mobile and light. Those rebounds do kick out, my fav pad yet!
