Details

New for 2018, Vaughn Custom Sports releases the newest creation in their most accomplished Velocity family line, the Vaughn Velocity VE8 XP Pro Carbon Senior Goalie Glove. While keeping the same great success as the V7 XF Pro Carbon, Vaughn was further able to incorporate reinforcements through the unit to increase performance.

Vaughn has kept their lower weight reduction which is 17% lighter compared to its first generation in the V6 2200. As noted above, the VE8 Pro Carbon is based off of the ever popular V7 XF Pro Carbon, one of the most used chest protectors by NHL and Pro level goaltenders.

The body of the VE8 Pro Carbon starts with an Ultralight HD foam with their carbon material reinforcements, ultimately increasing protection and reducing weight. Kevlar Ballistic plates line the stomach to further provides maximum protection in the body. This carbon material reinforcement can be found in the belly pad, shoulder floaters, shoulders caps, stomach wings and biceps. The sternum plate of the unit is also lined with carbon material reinforcements to add extra protection to the heart guard which seats itself under the shoulder floaters for seamless mobility. The shoulder floaters, while still being lined with carbon material, have 4 strategic cuts in them to segment nicely to the goalies body and conform to current NHL specs. Building on top of the popular shoulder design, Vaughn has added “Mrazek” straps which sit directly a top the shoulder floaters and close via a snap design. This new feature allows goalies, who tuck their chest protectors, the ability to run their suspenders directly over top of the floaters. Goalies will find this more comfortable as the suspenders will not fall off the shoulder or roll in tight towards the neck.

Between the body and shoulder floaters are smaller removable/adjustable flaps which the goalie can place to their wants and needs. These flaps help to cover any pucks that might sneak through the body and offer more seamless coverage. Lastly, the rib protection wraps comfortably around the body with seamless edges under the arms to reduce the risk of stingers on the side of the body.

The VE8 Pro Carbon incorporates the use of Velcro attachment points at the shoulder blades, ultimately connecting the shoulder floaters, shoulder caps and spine plate. With these adjustments, the chest protector can be tailored to match the needs and feel of the goalies. Lastly, Vaughn has reengineered the wrist section to give the goalie a better fit when putting their glove and blocker on. The thinner profile allows for a more seamless integration.

Compared to the Vaughn Velocity VE8 XP Pro chest protector, the VE8 XP Pro Carbon chest protector will feature higher quality materials and a North American build.

If you are a Vaughn Velocity enthusiast that wants new and improved modifications that is based off of the V7 XF chest protector, while still encapsulated in the North American factories, look no further than the Vaughn Velocity VE8 Pro Carbon Senior Goalie Chest Protector.

Great chest protector

I upgraded from the Brian's Sub-Zero 2 CA because I got tired of taking shots off the clavicle. I've used the V8 for around 10 games/ pickups and so far so good with only one good shot to the clavicle and only a small bruise to show for it but much nothing major. The good is that is is so light and comfortable with no break in what so ever. The thing that I like the most besides the protection is that you can feel the puck is the mobility. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new CA. I went to the store in NJ and spent a few hours trying on everything in the store and this far and away was the most natural fitting CA

Holy Jumpin !!!!

There’s a reason why 70% of the goaltenders in the NHL wear Vaughn chest protectors. They might wear something else on their hands and feet, but when it comes to protecting those all too important vital organs, and stopping pucks, they turn to Vaughn. This chest protector is a good example of why.

First off, this thing is comfortable. In all my years of playing goal I’ve never had a C/A that off the rack felt comfortable until I tried on the VE8. It sits right, settles up close but doesn’t get in the way and the arms move perfectly right away.

Secondly it’s light. I haven’t weighed it, but it is clearly much lighter than any of my old C/A’s (Vaughn and Bauer)

It is protective. I’ve played 10+ games in this thing against A/B level players and I’ve never had anything that felt like more than a thump to let me know where the puck hit. Admittedly, I do feel pucks into the arms more than I feel pucks into the body, but none of them sting.

It seals up. One of the problems I always had with my Bauer was that there were holes that pucks seem to have a knack of finding, so once a game or so I’d have a puck find a way through that I knew I was closed up on. Never once had that happen in the Vaughn VE8.

It’s as good as it gets, the only reason I could think of to not buy the VE8 is if something about your body mechanics and it don’t fit together.

Cheers,
