Build
High-Density Core Padding: Vaughn's Ion Junior pad core is padded with dense, springy padding designed to fire pucks away from the crease.
Progressive Thigh Flex w/ Soft Boot Flex: Built for goalies still developing their game, the Ion Junior pads move with an easy, youth-friendly flex that progressively softens down through the boot.
Beveled, Low-Profile Outer Roll: A solid outer roll helps the Ion Junior pads to maintain proper shaping, while the outer roll's low-profile bevel helps to reduce skip over.
Knee & Leg Channel
Open Knee Cradle: Compared to their predecessors, the SL4 PC pads, the Ion pads debut a flat knee cradle design. On the ice, the Ion pads' flat, open knee cradle helps the pads to control and rotate faster around the knees, and allows for a wider range of independent knee protection options.
Padded Calf Wrap w/ Easily-Adjustable Strapping: Compared to thinner, lighter competitor pads, Vaughn's plush calf wrap design secures the pads with a more comfortable, supportive feel. In combination with Vaughn's intuitive calf strapping system, the Ion Junior pads make it quick and easy for young goalies still learning how to properly fit and adjust their gear.
QuickSlide Inner Edge: A premium cross-hatched material, Vaughn's QuickSlide not only greatly improves durability, but helps goalies slide post-to-post with a confident balance between speed and control.
Boot & Toe Box
Scoop-Shaped Boot w/ Flat Instep: Vaughn's soft, more forgiving scoop-shaped boot helps goalies to put down solid coverage at the posts while helping to minimize lower body strain. Complementing Vaughn's ergonomic scoop-shaped boot, an almost entirely flat boot instep helps to ease pad rotation and further increase mobility through the ankles.
Bungee Toe Ties w/ Clips: Elastic toe ties secure each boot with more give over traditional skate lace toe ties, offering improved edge control and greatly reducing lower body strain.
Knee-to-Floor Measurement: Without shoes or skates, measure the vertical distance from the floor to the middle of the knee cap. Refer the K-t-F measurement to the chart above to find the goalies' recommended base leg pad size.
Please Note:
*Thigh rise height has not been included as thigh rise is largely player preference. Retail stock pads are typically produced in standard thigh rise heights of +1, +1.5, or +2. K-t-F is primarily used to fit the pad.
