Build- Carbon Core w/ Composite Facing: Vaughn's Pro Select Carbon Core construction is built to pro-spec, taking the crease with a rigid stability and high-pop from a combination of dense foams and composite layering.
- Stiff Thigh w/ Soft Boot Flex: Built around a stiff flex thigh, the Ion Pro Select pads offer a quick, tight sense of control above the knee, complemented by a softer boot to help hug the posts.
- Beveled, Low-Profile Outer Roll: A solid outer roll keeps the Ion Pro Select pads rigid, while the outer roll's low-profile bevel helps to reduce skip over.
Thigh Flex Options- Stiff, Single Break (Stock): Built around Vaughn's single-break, mid-stiff foam core, the Ion Pro Select pads put down a tight seal with a rigid thigh rise, balanced out by a softer flex in the boot.
- Soft, Double Break: Breaks above and below the knees offer the softest feel and easiest thigh rise flex.
Boot Options- Soft Flex (Stock): Vaughn's standard option, the soft boot flex offers a wider range of ankle mobility and more flexible coverage at the posts.
- Stiff Flex: Stiffer boot maximizes coverage over the skates and at the posts.
Outer Roll Options- No Break (Stock): A solid, low-profile outer roll helps to maintain stiffness throughout the pad.
- Single Break: A single break outer roll keeps a more rigid feel across the 5-hole, but allows a flex below the knees.
Knee & Inner Edge- Open Knee Cradle: Compared to their predecessors, the SL4 PC pads, the Ion pads debut a flat knee cradle design. On the ice, the Ion pads' flat, open knee cradle help the pads to control and rotate faster around the knees, and allows for a wider range of independent knee protection options.
- Directly-Integrated Knee Block: In keeping with the Ion pads' stiff, responsive play style, the knee blocks anchor directly into the pad core. On the ice, this helps to keep a tight seal and a more direct response between the knee block and the pads.
- Balance Stabilizer Plates w/ QuickSlide: Built for a stiff, responsive feel, the Ion Pro Select pads land on Vaughn's Balance Stabilizer inner edge design. Wide, reinforced calf plates wrapped in QuickSlide support the calves for a better, more ergonomic sense of stability.
Strapping & Fit- Scoop-Shaped Boot w/ Flat Instep: Familiar to fans of Vaughn leg pads, a soft-flex, scoop-shaped boot is built for precise post-to-post coverage while allowing for a more ergonomic feel down through the ankles. Complementing Vaughn's ergonomic scoop-shaped boot, the Ion Pro Select pads are built with an almost entirely flat boot instep, easing pad rotation and further increasing ankle mobility.
- RRC+ Calf Strapping: Vaughn's Reactive Rotation Control Plus calf strapping offers improved pad position and rotational control, allowing goalies to fine-tune strapping tension at both the upper and lower calf. For those who prefer or need to swap them out, Vaughn’s RRC+ strapping is easily removable.

Toe Bridge & Tie Options- Standard Toe Bridge w/ Velcro® Bungee Ties (Stock): Compared to traditional skate lace toe ties, bungee toe ties allow for a greater range of motion in the goalie's ankle while keeping the pad properly anchored.
- Standard Toe Bridge w/ Traditional Skate Lace: Strong, static hold, anchors the pads to the goalie's skates.
